A bit about us
We've been in this business for quite a while. Whilst Formoda was founded in March 2007, the three directors have 30 years of combined experience in the e-commerce industry. With a Marketer, a Programmer and a Designer at the helm, Formoda is led by people who specialise in the core fields of our industry.
Our prime aim is to maximise your company's potential. Whether the medium is print or online our goal is to make you the best you can be. In order to achieve this everything we produce is bespoke because we understand that every business is different. We're only successful because what we produce is successful.
Since almost all our clients are through referrals our business is built on happy customers. We're not happy unless you're happy. This is why we talk to you. This is why we design until you're happy. This is why we proof our work to you first and explain our reasoning. This is why we don't stop until it works perfectly.
We know through experience that in order to deliver our level of service to the client, many things have to work smoothly behind the scenes. This is why each project is led by a project manager, whose sole duty is to ensure the flow of information is smooth and efficient. This is why an actual Designer handles all design elements and a Programmer sews it all together with expert programming. A Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) specialist performs the search engine optimisation and a professional photographer does photography. We believe in specialists.
Simon Dolley | Managing Director
Simon has been working in the Internet industry since 2001 after his return to his native Devon. Previously he had worked in Liverpool in a marketing capacity for a variety of travel and tourism companies.
Simon is our main contact with Formoda clients, fully understanding their needs and communicating this information to the development team.
Simon was instrumental in setting up the South Devon Business Club (www.sdbc.biz) and doesn't have much free time as he ends up helping his partner Lisa with her organic skincare business Aromatika. Sometimes he does manage to get muddy in his garden, play for his own 6-a-side football team and hack around the golf course.
Richard Rawlings | Technical Director
Richard has over 12 years experience developing web applications and databases for a diverse range of clients and he always brings fresh ideas to our projects. He is also an experienced UNIX server administrator and ensures our servers run smoothly and securely.
Richard's role is to oversee the technical side of Formoda's operations including server management, XHTML/CSS coding, back-end programming and customer support.
Richard is kept busy outside of Formoda by his wife Hazel and Border Collie Sam. He's a keen runner and walker and takes every opportunity to explore Devon's beautiful countryside.
David Gurney | Creative Director
Since earning a Design degree, David has been working in the industry for over twelve years. Having worked for a number of successful design agencies, David has experience with all manner of companies, from start-up one man bands to blue-chip multinationals.
His diverse portfolio includes everything from branding to interactive multimedia.
In what spare time he has, David is interested in Film, motorsport, travel, wine and lively discussions on politics. David got married to Helen in 2009 and their baby daughter Evie was born in April 2010.
Toni Berning | Project & Social Media Manager
Toni brings excellent project managing experience and skills to Formoda and has established herself as our social media and online marketing specialist.
Toni also communicates between potential and existing clients and the rest of the Formoda team and also ensures that the projects under her control run smoothly and successfully.
Originally from Germany, Toni has also lived for some time in Australia and the UK and therefore her English is better than most English people we meet!
Sue Coghlan | Graphic Designer
Susan has been working in the web and graphic design industry for 10 years. She moved down to Devon from London in 2009, and she was working on a wide variety of freelance contracts until she joined Formoda.
Susan's experience and graphic design style help us broaden our range of creativity within all aspects of our work, from web and publishing to brand identity.
When not sat in front of the computer Susan will be waddling around Devon in her running gear with the local running club. Her next favorite pastime is making big gooey cakes. Lucky for Formoda there's always some left over!
James Draper | Website Developer
James was working for a development company in Worcestershire prior to joining Formoda but immediately saw the potential of relocating to Devon to join Formoda.
James has extremely strong coding skills and will help the Formoda team to continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in Internet development.
James is a keen juggler so as they said in ancient Rome "Caveat volatilis balls" - beware flying balls...
Tom Wotton | Online Marketing Specialist
Before joining Formoda, Tom worked for a Devon web design and marketing company for three and a half years where he gained a lot of experience in graphic design, website development and online marketing, so we were delighted when he decided to join the Formoda team.
Tom is one of those rare beasts, a graphic designer who can also code well and therefore brings an extra flexibility to the Formoda team. He also brings a wealth of online marketing experience which is already helping our clients.
Based near Ivybridge, Tom lives with his partner and when away from the office is usually socialising, playing football or helping on the farm. Traditionally a farmer's son in advertising is someone who holds a sign that reads 'eggs for sale', so Tom is breaking the trend a little.
Olly Hicks | Website Developer
Olly joined us in 2009 on a work placement from college and did so well we asked him to stay a bit longer and in July 2010 after his exams we offered him a permanent role.
Olly has already worked on some key Formoda projects but is also very adept on working on lots of little bits and pieces all at once.
Olly has acquired a new "ped" which apparently is the same as a moped and is currently terrorising Torbay and the South Hams on the said vehicle.
Sam Gilson | Online Marketing
Sam has a wealth of experience of providing online marketing and search engine optimisation services to agencies in London and the South West. As well as working as part of the Formoda team she also has her own company SGA Marketing.
Sam offers our clients expertise in search engine rankings, social media (such as Facebook and Twitter) and Online PR and this combined with our existing technical skills and ways of developing websites means that our clients receive excellent search engine optimisation solutions.
Sam is kept busy outside of work by her husband, children and dogs but we would recommend keeping on the right side of her as her 'combat' skills can make her a dangerous lady to know!
Kerry Marot | Accounts Manager
Kerry has been working in accounts for a number of years and has a great deal of experience with companies large and small. She left her job with Dartmouth Golf and Country Club when she had her first child and has been working with Formoda for a few years now.
Kerry will be managing the books for Formoda, so be nice to her as she pays the bills. Also if ever you are late paying your bills, be prepared to incur the wrath of Kerry!
Kerry lives in Dartmouth with her partner Guy and two young daughters. When she is not speaking in toddler language with her daughter, she enjoys her life of leisure by strolling down to Blackpool Sands.
Sam the Collie | Welcome Host
We have had a number of complaints that our most popular team member wasn't listed on the about us page.
Sam is our welcome host and therefore the first member of the team that most visitors meet and always gives them a warm and hearty greeting.
Sam dreams of being an alpha male dog but is really a soppy thing and is also happy to go for a walk with anyone who offers.
